“And I can see small plants coming back, almost an echo of what was here before. A memory, a reminder, the spots of rain feel hopeful… I stay in the same spot a while and listen to the birds. I’m amazed at how life keeps coming back with such insistence, demanding the light. That urgency - this must happen. This will happen. And that’s a very hopeful way for me to think about things.

My feelings have changed since I first walked in this woods, having visited other similar places and with a few weeks passing. I don’t find this environment as shocking as I did before.”
