KENYAN GOLD (2015)
Artisanal gold miners have been working in Rosterman, an area of western Kenya, for hundreds of years. These days small teams of women and men work together to sort, crush, sieve and filter the mud and rocks such that the tiny specs of precious metal are revealed and can be graded and sold. It's tough physical work for little reward - the real added value comes later in the supply chain at the dealerships in Nairobi, Dar Es Salaam and beyond.
